Two months after a woman who was found by Lafayette police died of a drug overdose, investigators say they have arrested someone in connection with that case.

Police officers found the woman on October 23 in the 500 block of Jefferson Street. When officers arrived on the scene, the woman was unconscious. She was taken to an area hospital, where she died on October 30. Police have not released the deceased's name.

Investigators say a toxicology test revealed the woman died as a result of fentanyl toxicity.

According to police, their investigation led them to Damien Bernard, 25, Arnaudville. Investigators say Bernard sold the woman the deadly dose of drugs. Lafayette police officers and U. S. Marshals arrested Bernard on Tuesday on one count of second-degree murder. He remains in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on $400,000 bond.
