Well, you don't see this every day.

A large alligator showed up on a Texas beach and it was spotted by scientists near Galveston Beach.

Sea turtle patrollers on the Bolivar Peninsula discovered an alligator on Tuesday morning and while many were shocked to see it, this isn't the first time a gator decides to hang out where many beachgoers congregate.

There's no word on how the gator got there, but we are approaching their breeding season, and some speculate it may have "gotten off course".

Alligators are considered protected game animals in Texas, and like here in Louisiana, special permits are required to hunt, raise or possess gators.

While we are accustomed to seeing these animals in the swamp and in freshwater areas, they can survive in salt water for a short period of time.

So, if you are going to be on the beach in the upcoming months, not only should you keep an eye out for sharks and other marine life, but perhaps for alligators too.
