Matthew Riggins, 22, was possibly hiding from deputies when he was killed by an 11 foot alligator.

Investigators say that Riggins told his girlfriend that he would be in Barefoot Bay, Florida to commit burglaries with an accomplice who is now in custody, but is refusing to cooperate with officials.

Deputies were called out to the area on November 13 after it was reported that two men dressed in all black were seen walking behind area houses. The two men ran when confronted by the officers. Riggins was reported missing later that day.

Police reported hearing "yelling," but couldn't determine where it was coming from. Ten days later, Riggins body was found in a nearby lake.

It was determined that Riggins died from drowning, and had bite marks on his legs, and body that are consistent with an alligator attack.

While trying to recover the body, Sheriff's dive team members encountered an 11-foot alligator acting aggressively. The alligator was euthanized, and after being cut open, body parts were found that were consistent with the injuries to Riggins.
