A crash early Sunday morning in the Kaplan area claimed the life of an Abbeville man according to officials with Louisiana State Police.

Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Thomas Gossen says that 54-year-old Torlin Williams lost control of his car in a curve on Highway 14.

His car went into the lane after he crossed the center line, and his car split into two pieces.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gossen says because there was so much damage to the man's car, they do not know whether or not he was wearing a seat belt.

Routine toxicology tests are pending, and Gosses says the two people in the other car were not harmed.
