Acadian Village Sets Mardi Gras Events for 2021
We've all been wondering how the coronavirus pandemic will affect our most cherished holiday traditions, and some of us are even looking forward to Mardi Gras festivities for next year. Be honest, you've thought about it too! Although some events are still up in the air, even New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell has stated that Mardi Gras will definitely be held in 2021, but will look a lot different than in years past. That might be the understatement of the century, folks.
Well, the people at LARC's Acadian Village have restored my faith a little bit this week by announcing that they will hold some of their annual events to celebrate Mardi Gras next year. Now, if you've ever been to a Courir de Mardi Gras, you know what a party it is, especially if there s a designated 'chicken run' for the kids. Next year you can look forward to the chicken chasing to be held in conjunction with a gumbo cook-off, and both are set for Saturday, January 30 at 10:00 am.
Teams are currently being sought to compete in the gumbo cook-off, and the price per team is $50. All teams must be registered in advance, and if you would like to enter, contact Rusty Noel at 337-257-0237. Local arts and crafts vendors are also being solicited, with booth prices set at $40. These also have to be reserved in advance by calling Acadian Village at 337-981-2364.
It seems like Mardi Gras is a million years from now, but really it's just around the corner, on Tuesday, February 16th. It will be good to get back to just a tiny bit of what we've already missed this year, right? Let us know what kind of gumbo you'll be cooking, sha!
