A 9-year-old girl was learning to shoot an uzi submachine gun at a firing range in Arizona when she accidentally shot her instructor in the head.

Charles Vacca, 39, was an instructor at a firing range in White Hills, Arizona. Vacca passed away Monday night after he was shot in the head while teaching a 9-year-old girl how to fire an uzi. The accident occurred at around 10am.

The girl pulled the trigger, and the recoil sent it out of her control. Vacca was standing next to her when the accident happened.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas (which is about 60 miles from White Hills), and died around 9pm.

According to the Bullets and Burgers website, which organizes tours from Las Vegas to the range, 8 is the minimum age for taking part. The location advertises machine guns, military-style bunkers, and specialty weapons.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has released this video of Vacca and the 9-year-old girl at the shooting range moments before the fatal accident.
