First of all, my apologies for not putting together this sooner. I was just looking at the first one of these I did, and hadn't noticed how much traffic, interest and good memories it had generated. So, here we are, 5 more old school local bands from Lafayette you should get reacquainted with. There were SO many great bands from the area, it was hard to choose which ones to use for this. If you were in, or really liked a local band that isn't on this list don't worry. I'll have another one up SOON. It's not that you've been intentionally overlooked, I promise...it's just I haven't come across your CD in my collection yet. ENJOY, and SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!

STRAWBOSS

loading...

Here we have the mighty Strawboss. Cory Guidry, Brian Marshal, Jason Valdetero and Bernard Watson was the lineup for the "Evergreen EP" These guys were excellent musicians and excellent songwriters. Cory has one of, if not THE best voice I've ever heard live....local band or national band. He could literally blow out a PA system when he got cranked up. The songs on this e.p. are all fantastic, well thought out, and played with serious chops. I've included a song called "Canopy" from an EP they recorded after this featuring former Swill drummer Randy Reed.

SABBATIC FEAST

Sabbatic Feast were Acadiana's premier Death Metal band. Actually, at the time, they were Acadiana's only Death Metal band. No one was really doing it the way Sabbatic Feast was. Blast beats, complicated time signatures, Satan... they really had it nailed down as solid as anyone, local or national. I remember seeing them one Halloween night at Shannahan's on the strip and Levi, the lead singer, was wearing a Michael Myers mask. It was beyond striking. All of a sudden a horrible storm broke out and the wind started rushing through every little hole in the roof, making the most evil, unearthly noise I had ever heard in my life... all while Sabbatic Feast were KILLING IT live on stage. I literally thought I was actually going to Hell at that moment. Not later that night, it was happening there at Shannahan's. I remember talking to Levi after the show and telling him that and him saying "You have no idea how happy that makes me". Below are 2 tracks from "Scaling The Vortex".

RUMBLEFISH

loading...

Here we have Rumblefish, a band I was in for many years. I wasn't going to include us initially because I didn't want it seem self serving. However, over the past few months I've been contacted by former fans of band looking to find copies of the c.d., so I decided to go ahead and include Rumblefish in this list. This c.d. was our first "Proper" c.d. We affectionately refer to as our "Eerie Sounds Of Halloween" CD. We have no idea why it looks likes this, seriously... we weren't in on this step of production. I think the other guys would agree with me when I say the years we spent playing music together were some of the most fun of our lives. If you ever came to see us play, bought our t-shirts or CD's, THANK YOU. On Friday nights, we can still be found hanging out at each others house, drinkin a few cold ones and pickin a few tunes. Below are a couple of songs from "6 In The Mix".

LIQUID SAND

loading...

II remember being at Grant St the night I first saw Liquid Sand. I was good friends with the singer Rhett Mouton, and had run into him somewhere earlier that day. He told me his new band Liquid Sand was playing at Grant Street that night and that I should come check them out. I agreed, and so I did. They blew me away, and everyone else in the place, with their musicianship and sound. I hadn't heard a band from Lafayette really have the chops to pull off a "Prog Rock" style band before, but Liquid Sand did, in a major way. It was hard for me to decide which album to choose for this. The band put out 3 albums (at least those are the only ones I have) each one better than the last. I figured I'd just go with the one that started it all "A Million Faces".

POWERTRIBE

loading...

One night, me and my roommate at the time, Chris "June Bugg" Anderson decided to go out and see if we could find any live bands playing in town. Eventually we wound up at The Sports Page on Johnston street. We walked in, place packed to the gills, and were treated to our inaugural Powertribe gig. Powertribe were absolutely BRUTAL. Perfect vocals, perfect drumming, perfect Bass playing... and then Kevin ripped into a guitar solo. We were both screaming words I can't type in this blog. After the show we all went and hung out at Metropolis downtown, then eventually wound up at singer Darren and his Sister's apt. till the sun came up. Got to know these guys pretty well throughout the years and I'm glad I did. Below are a couple of tunes from "SWAMP MONSTER VOODOO HAMMER".
