Lafayette Police arrested the girlfriend of the person who lives in a home at 402 Rena Drive for arson after investigators say she set the house on fire.

St. Amant and the person who lives at that home were in some type of argument when Lafayette Fire Investigator Alton Trahan says St. Amant started a fire in the carport area of the home on Rena Drive near Ayershire Drive by Little Veron's.

Trahan says several witnesses say the house on fire and called it into emergency responders who were out there just after 8:30 last night to begin putting out the blaze.

The home was heavily damaged by the fire, especially the back of the home.

Investigators searched the home, and they found that no one was at home when the fire started.

We were told the home is in foreclosure and is up for sale by local government officials.

St. Amant has been charged with Simple Arson in relation to the fire, and Trahan says their investigation continues.

If you think you have information about this situation, you are asked to call the Lafayette Fire Department at 337-291-8716.
