An American Airlines flight from Miami to Chicago was forced to land in Jacksonville after a passenger spilled a soda on board. As you can imagine there is a bit more to this story. Pilots made the call to land because crew members reported smelling smoke on board.

The spilled soda apparently soaked an electrical panel on the plane. The flight landed safely and fire investigators are looking closer at the aircraft before putting it back into service.

In a statement, American said the landing was out of an abundance of caution and that the crew handled the situation perfectly. Passengers were moved to a different plane and after a bit of a delay, they were on their way to Chicago. Can we suggest better cup holders?
