Scott Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for burglarizing a business and stealing a vehicle on Saturday, February 24.

Chief Chad Leger says officer were called out to the Cameron Street business after the burglary, and then the next morning very early, Lafayette Sheriff's deputies spotted the vehicle.

The driver took off, and he and his passenger, led police on a chase to Acadia Parish where the alleged criminals got the car stuck in the mud.

Scott Police gave chase after the two took off on foot, but only the passenger was detained.

They say the driver was identified as 35-year-old Justine Melancon of Ville Platte, who has now been questioned by Scott Police while been held in the Evangeline Parish Jail.

He will be transferred to the Lafayette jail to face the following charges:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Simple  Burglary
  • Criminal Damage to Property

Scott investigators say Melancon gave a full confession.
