Forecasters are downgrading the possibility that a non-tropical low-pressure system in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will spin up into a tropical cyclone over the next few days. Yesterday forecasters with the National Hurricane Center were giving the system a 40% probability of development. Today's forecast has reduced that possibility to only 30% over the next five days.

Forecasters say the system could still acquire tropical characteristics as it continues to drift slowly toward the north. Regardless of strengthening the system appears to pose very little threat to the Louisiana coastline. Most of the precipitation with this system is well off to the east of the center of circulation.

This will mean a lot of rainfall for the Florida peninsula over the next four to five days as the system eventually moves onshore along the Florida Panhandle sometime late this week.
