The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for many parts of Acadiana and several areas have already accumulated flood waters.

The flash flood warning is in place for Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin and St. Landry Parishes until 3 p.m.

Roads in northwestern St. Martin Parish have already been closed as high waters have submerged the road surfaces. The Department of Transportation has reported the following roads have either been affected by high water, or closed, until the waters subside:Lafayette Parish

LA 182 (University Avenue) from LA 723 (Renaud Drive) to Pont Des Mouton Road
LA 98 from I-49 to LA 176 (Moss Street)
LA 98 from LA 176 (Moss Street) to Wilderness Trail
LA 182 from Prejean Road to LA 726 (Veterans Drive)
LA 726 (Veterans Drive) from South Michaud Street to LA 182

St. Martin Parish
High Water:
LA 328 from I-10 to LA 347
LA 347 from Jct 355 to Jct 686 - NOW CLEAR OF ALL WATER
LA 347 from Jct 351 to Jct 328

Closures:
LA 347 (Grand Point Highway) from LA 328 to Doyle Melancon Road
LA 347 from south Jct 678 (Grand Anse Highway) to north Jct 678 (Grand Anse Highway)
LA 347 from Jct 686 to LA 328

No other routes are affected at this time. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and avoid the closed areas.

In efforts to stay safe, remember it is never a good idea to drive through flood waters

Meteorologist Eric Zernich at the KATC Weather Lab says the showers should begin to taper off by this evening.
