X-Men isn’t the only superhero franchise with some major updates today — there’s also some interesting new info from Sony and Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Homecoming star Tom Holland has revealed the details of his contract with both studios, while Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has offered official confirmation of Michael Keaton’s villainous role in the new Spidey film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already made some major strides in bringing diversity to the big screen. With Black Panther on the way and Spider-Man: Homecoming casting an actress of color in the (rumored) role of Mary Jane, we’re looking at a much less white future for superhero movies. But the latest Spider-Man movie will also look much different from the previous iterations takes to one small details: realistic high schools.

Just last week, Joe and Anthony Russo shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Josh Brolin rehearsing for Avengers: Infinity War, giving us our first look (sort of) at Thanos’ return. But Jon Watts isn’t about to let the Russos get away with stealing the superhero spotlight — in response, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming has offered up a new set video that shows off Tom Holland’s breakdancing skills, complete with mo-cap Spidey action.

You might remember a call sheet that surfaced from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming a couple of weeks ago, seemingly revealing a handful of previously unannounced characters. But without official confirmation, those names (mostly) offered intriguing possibilities, particularly with regards to a certain character played by Fargo star Bokeem Woodbine. Warning: Potential spoilers ahead.

The latest photo from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming is dark — literally. As in, Tom Holland is hanging out (lurking?) in an alleyway, doing his best Daredevil impression, righteously looking down on injustice from atop a structure piled with boxes and making all of us feel very small in comparison. It’s like, a metaphor or something. Also it’s just a cool photo with a nice shout-out to Holland’s stunt team.

Any apprehension about another reboot of the Spider-Man franchise went out the door when Tom Holland made his web-slinging debut in Captain America: Civil War. With Marvel calling the creative shots on Spider-Man: Homecoming (and a cast that gets better every week), our faith in Spidey has been officially renewed. And Sony is feeling pretty confident, too, as executive Tom Rothman recently spoke about the upcoming film, offering an explanation for the Homecoming title and declaring Holland the best Spider-Man yet.

I’m the guy who wrote the article “What Marvel Got Right About Spider-Man That His Solo Movies Got Wrong,” so it should go without saying (or at least saying again) how much I enjoyed Tom Holland’s new take on Spidey from Captain America: Civil War. The real test for the new Spider-Man, though, will be his first full-fledged solo film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, due next summer from Marvel and Sony. Will Homecoming carry forward Spidey’s momentum from Civil War? Or will it be another Amazing Spider-Man 2? (Dear Lord, please don’t let it be another Amazing Spider-Man 2.)

After delivering two great Spider-Man films back-to-back (and almost singlehandedly launching a new era of superhero franchises), Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 left fans and critics feeling a bit disappointed. With one too many villains, that famous Peter Parker dance sequence (which I actually like!) and reports of Sony’s meddling, Raimi’s third film in the series ultimately proved to be his last when he abandoned plans for Spider-Man 4 back in 2010 — leaving us wondering what his fourth film might have looked like. Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder (much) anymore.

What Marvel Got Right About Spider-Man That His Solo Movies Got Wrong
Oh what a different 18 months makes. A year ago, last fall Spider-Man fans were facing an entire universe of Spidey movies they didn’t particularly want; a third Amazing Spider-Man about the continuing and not-particularly-exciting adventures of Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, plus spinoff movies for Venom and the Sinister Six. Things got so bad for Spider-Man that when rumors began circulating that Sony was considering an Aunt May movie, Sony had to publicly dismiss those rumors as “silly” with “no validity whatsoever” because people thought that the company that made Amazing Spider-Man 2 might actually be dumb enough to make an Aunt May movie.

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2, uh, sucked, Sony had planned to use the movie to launch a whole cinematic universe of Spider-Man movies. In addition to a third Amazing Spidey, there was going to be a Sinister Six movie starring some of the Wall-Crawler’s most notorious villains, and a movie for Venom, his black-suited adversary who previously appeared in Spider-Man 3, where he was played by Topher Grace. At various points, Gary Ross and Josh Trank were in position to direct the film from a script by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

After the news that Marvel and Sony had come to an agreement to co-produce a new series of ‘Spider-Man’ movies, while also introducing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the items we immediately turned our attention to was Sony's planned ‘Sinister Six’ spinoff, which was deep into development and was teased all through last summer’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ Director Drew Goddard (‘The Cabin in the Woods’) had been working on the film since last year (he even left Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ series to focus on it) with a November 2016 release date planned. The future of that film seemed very tenuous this morning following the big announcement, but now comes news that the film is still in development at Sony.

In lieu of a traditional 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' post-credits scene, Sony inserted a sneak peek of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' probably the closest thing we'll ever get to a cinematic feature film team-up between the web slinger and mutant supergroup. For those of you who went to see Spidey's latest adventure but didn't want to wait to see that 'X-Men' clip, today's your lucky day -- you can watc
