If you use Snapchat on your iPhone, then you already know it kills your battery—but there are a few tricks that can help you keep your phone charged up for longer.

Snapchat is super popular, but it's also super needy when it comes to hogging all your data—especially if you're on it daily. You can literally watch your battery drain when making use of the iOS favorite.

The reason isn't a terrible one. Snapchat aims to please, so the fact that their app updates immediately in the background when new things pop up tends to wear down the battery faster. When it comes to your friends and their snap stories, as well as direct messages and snaps from your friends, the notifications are instant.

This real-time feature is super cool and just one of the main automatic updates that Snapchat has to offer. Another great feature that can help you preserve some serious battery life is 'Travel Mode.'

Snapchat gives you the option to disable the real-time updates to not only save battery life, but also data usage especially when you're traveling abroad. Keep in mind that when using 'Travel Mode' to keep your battery life, you won't be able to receive new stories, snaps, or the Discovery section automatically upon opening the app.

So now that you know about it, here's how you turn it on.

1. Go to the Snapchat app and open it.

2. Go to Settings > Manage Additional Services.

3. Move The 'Travel Mode' toggle to the ON position.
