SLEMCO, a major utility provider in Acadiana, is urging customers who are experiencing power outages to remain patient.

The flooded roads are inhibiting work crews from getting to areas that have lost some power.

Mary Laurent, communications manager for SLEMCO, said in areas where crews have not been able to access, crews are onsite, waiting for water levels to go down so they can move in immediately.

“We don’t have many outages,” Laurent said. “The problem is physically getting to the equipment and switches we need to access, in order to restore power. The roads are impassable even with our large trucks and some of the equipment is actually underwater.”

Where electrical equipment is underwater, water levels will have to recede before the power can be restored.
