Former NBA star and current all around awesome dude, Shaquille O'Neal, was sworn in as a Lafayette deputy marshal this morning!

Shaq was on set in Miami last night, but DROVE the almost 14 hours to get to the Lafayette Parish Courthouse this morning to be sworn in as a deputy city marshal.

Clerk of Court Louis Perret called it "the coolest swearing in" he's done this year. [The year is still young, Mr. Perret, although this one will be tough to beat.]

Shaq has been involved in law enforcement in several states for years. Perret adds, "He loves the police. He loves to support the police."

O'Neal was actually sworn in as a Lafayette deputy marshal a few years back under former City Marshal Earl Picard. Newly elected City Marshal Brian Pope and Chief Deputy Phil Conrad accompanied O'Neal, as all deputies must be sworn in again under a new marshal.

He was kind enough to sign a few autographs and take a few pictures.
