Saints Players Who Had Pro Bowl Argument: Did NFL Get It Right?

The 2016 NFL Pro Bowl rosters were announced on Tuesday, with no members of the New Orleans Saints being named.

This marks the second-consecutive season that the Saints get shutout of the Pro Bowl.

But which Saints players could have, and maybe even should have made the list of this year's Pro Bowlers?

Below is a list of Saints players who have a Pro Bowl argument, while deciding if the league got it right by leaving them off the roster.

Cam Jordan: Jordan is tied for the NFL lead with 16 tackles for loss and ranks in the top 10 with 21 quarterback hits and five batted passes. His problem is he only has 6.5 sacks. His versatility is to his detriment. That's ashamed, because Jordan should definitely be on the Pro Bowl roster for a third time in his career. He's a greatly underrated/underappreciated player. They got this one wrong. WAY WRONG! Jordan certainly should be a Pro Bowler.

Drew Brees: Brees leads the NFL in passing yards, with 4,559, and touchdown passes, with 34. He has a better completion percentage (71.1%) than all three NFC quarterbacks on the Pro Bowl Roster, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, and Dak Prescott, while also having a better quarterback rating than Rodgers. I think they got this one wrong. Brees should probably be a Pro Bowler.

Brandin Cooks: Cooks ranks fourth in the NFC in receiving yards, with 1,056 yards, and fifth in touchdown receptions, with 8, while also ranking in the top ten in both categories in the NFL. It's hard to argue against Odell Beckham, Julio Jones, Mike Evans, or Larry Fitzgerald, the four NFC receivers named, and if you had to name a fifth it would likely be Jordy Nelson. You could even make the argument that Cooks isn't even the best receiver on his own team. But Cooks, at least in the receiving yards, and touchdown receptions department, has an argument. Still, they got this one right.

Michael Thomas: What a rookie year for the second-round draft choice from Ohio St.! 76 catches for 883 yards and 8 touchdowns. He's special! But there are too many big-name receivers having big years, and Thomas is a rookie who doesn't lead his team in receiving yards. They got this one right.

John Kuhn: Kuhn has been to the Pro Bowl three times before, and has scored 5 touchdowns, while providing solid blocking. Only one fullback is on each squad though, and it's just so hard to judge the position. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they likely got it right.

Thomas Morstead: Morstead ranks fourth in the NFL in both yards-per-punt, at 48.1, and net yards, at 42.6. The problem is Andy Lee and Sam Martin. Lee and Martin are both NFC kickers and have slightly better stats. If the Saints were in the AFC, I would say Morstead should be on the team, but they're not. So, they got it right.

The bottom line is the Saints are 6-8, and guaranteed to have their third-consecutive non-winning season. When you don't win, you don't get the awards.

In reality, it's really not all that surprising that zero Saints players were named to the Pro Bowl.
