Boaters are urged to stay off the Vermilion River this Memorial Day weekend.

With temperatures surpassing the 90-degree mark this weekend, many may want to take their boats out and cruise along the Vermilion River, but officials are urging citizens to avoid the river.

The water along the river has been over 10 feet for the past two weeks and boat launches are flooded, thus they are now closed.

For those that do have access to the river, officials ask you to avoid the water so that you do not create wakes that could push water into homes along the river.

Another good point made here is that emergency officials will not be able to get on the river in the event of an emergency. So, they are asking you to not put yourself in a situation where help cannot get to you.
