An Acadiana man has created a smartphone app that translates common Cajun phrases.

Luke Romero, an Acadiana native, created the LearnCajun app after listening to his grandparents speak Cajun French. His mother also said that, growing up, the family would often speak Cajun French when they didn't want their kids to hear what they were talking about. Wanting to know what they were saying, Romero eventually began recording their phrases to use in the app.

Over the course of eight years, Romero has added 90 phrases to the app to help people who don't speak the language, as well as to bridge the generation gap between those who do in order to keep Cajun French alive.

LearnCajun is available now for iOS devices.
