Are you expecting a tax refund this year? You may be waiting awhile. When can you expect to receive your refund? No one is saying, which is why Louisiana lawmakers are questioning the slow pace of state tax refunds.

I know I've been not-so-patiently checking my mailbox everyday for my tax refund. Still...nothing. What in the hell is taking so long?! From The Advertiser:

“It does have an effect on our economy. Besides, people feel that money was taken from them on a weekly basis and now it’s time they’re due a refund and for some reason we’re holding those up,” said Senate President John Alario, R-Westwego, a tax consultant.

Last year, the state Department of Revenue began using a new fraud prevention system which warns tax filers that it slows down the refund process.

Filing a paper return takes significantly more time to process than electronic filing. A paper return could take up to 16 WEEKS to get your return, while electronic filing could take at least 21 days after filing.

At this point, though, they have no answer as to what the hold up is, even though lawmakers are asking the right questions.

Natalie Howell, undersecretary for the department, said she didn’t have information for lawmakers about the pace of refunds. [Ed. note: Shouldn't that be a big part of her job?]

“A lot of people are waiting for their refund checks,” Alario told Howell. He asked her to “take the message back to the department to maybe give us some idea what’s holding up those checks to get those out.”

We just want what's owed to us, right? Can we at least get a danged ole timeline on when we can expect it?
