Stafford Barnett, who you may know from KPEL's Winging-It Wednesday, and whose home flooded last August, has come up with a way to protect his home by using a unique device that he built. He was kind enough to share pictures, and instructions on how to build one for yourself.

Essentially it's a device that holds back flood water to an extent, and also irrigates water that might get through the initial barrier.

Here is how he created the device:

Hey guys. The images on this post show the barrier I made. It's holding now, and hopefully will hold back the flood waters.

It's 15" irrigation hose from DeRoeun's plastics in Rayne, LA. The couplers are 15" pipe, each 3' long with a 2" thread tapped into the middle of the pipe. I then plumbed a 3/4 valve on each one. The hose is attached with hose clamps, and rubber between the clamp and the irrigation pipe. I then filled it with water, and placed pumps behind the system to get the water out that gets trapped behind the barrier.

Hope this helps.
