A line of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across Louisiana early Sunday morning. By mid-morning, the line had reached the New Orleans area where Jazz Fest 2017 was underway.

Officials with that festival opted to delay the opening of the event for good reason. As you can see in this video the rain was heavy, winds were gusty, but more importantly, the lightning was close at hand.

In this video from NOLA.com you can see why officials made the correct call in delaying the opening of the festival. An apparent lightning strike very near the Gentilly Street gates created quite a light show. Not only was the flash of lightning bright but it apparently caused a nearby transformer to rain sparks down on the street as well.
