Less is more, right?

According to a report by The Daily Advertiser, that old saying couldn't be truer as the Less Pay Motel will be torn down to make way for new housing in Lafayette. The two-story building sits at the corner of University Avenue and Cameron Street—an area that will soon be home to affordable living "geared toward artists."

HRI properties senior vice president of development services, Josh Colleen, says that his company has three pieces of property under contract at the Four Corners intersection.

The three properties on the block fronted by University Avenue, Cameron Street, Evangeline Street and Midway include the former motel, a metal building and a 28,000-square-foot warehouse that once served as a Coca-Cola bottling and distribution plant.

The company has redeveloped similar properties into residential housing. The Bywater Art Lofts in New Orleans was transformed by HRI and redeveloped into living and gallery space for artists. According to The Daily Advertiser HRI's Lafayette Bottle Art Lofts

40 rental apartments (35 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom units) with leasing preference for artists, a common studio, art gallery, fitness center, computer learning center, playground, picnic area, community garden and covered parking.

Hopefully it will be a nice addition to the revitalization that is planned for the University Avenue corridor. The project will focus on revamping University Avenue from Cameron Street to "just north of Interstate 10."
