Lance Armstrong was once an American folk hero.

He won the the Tour de France a record 7 times, after surviving a battle with cancer. A doping scandal resulted in his being drummed out of cycling in disgrace, and stripped of his titles.

In a recent interview with Freakonomics, Armstrong said he was walking on a Denver street when patrons in a nearby bar recognized him, and started yelling obscenities. He took an Uber to his destination, and called the bar.

Armstrong gave the manager his credit card information, and asked him to pay their tab with it. He also asked the manager to relay a message, "I understand." That's what I call taking the high road!
