Some Acadiana neighborhoods that have not seen standing water since the August 2016 flood had water in their homes again yesterday. The rain event does not compare to the 19 inches that fell last year, but KATC totals show more than 7 inches fell between Youngsville and Milton.

The flooding comes as Lafayette Consolidated Government continues to push for a tax measure that would provide funding for drainage upgrades. Seems like an easy fix, right? Well, the problem may be the CREATE initiative, which some critics have called unnecessary. Funding for the CREATE initiative is tied to the drainage measure and would provide $500,000 to promote Lafayette culture. In an interview with KPEL, Mayor-President Joel Robideaux said CREATE is a comprehensive effort to brand Lafayette as a cultural tourism and entertainment hub.

Voters will head to the polls on November 18th to vote on this measure. CLICK HERE to see your sample ballot.
