There are ten dogs that will be euthanized tomorrow if they cannot find foster, rescue, or adoption homes.

For the first time in three years, Animal Aid for Vermilion Area has a full facility, and ten of the dogs that are currently housed there face euthanization.

Here is the reason why this is happening, as well as how you can help:

For the first time since March 2014, the Vermilion Parish Police Jury and its authorized animal rescue, Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (AAVA), find themselves facing "euthanization" of dogs. During the past months, owner surrenders and rescued strays have increased so rapidly, that the shelter remains at FULL CAPACITY. Volunteers for AAVA have been working endlessly, sometimes pulling from the shelter as many as 10 to 15 dogs weekly. Lately when 10 are rescued, 12 more come into the facility.

VPRAC Facility is a Kill Shelter. BUT, the Vermilion Parish Police Jury and their authorized rescue AAVA do not want animals to be euthanized. Together, they have made every effort to save the lives of these abandoned, neglected, abused or simply unwanted animals. I have personal knowlege of every conversation between these entities because I am the VOICE between VPPJ, VPRAC AND AAVA 7 days a week for the past 3 years.

Today, once again, there are 0 empty dog kennels. As you know, VPRAC is an Animal Control Facility, thereby they must have empty kennels available for emergency cases, such as cruelty cases, bite cases, etc.

The names of 10 dogs have been submitted for euthanization. They were chosen by the length of time that they have been housed in our facility.

We need fosters, adoptions, rescues and financial donations. So, we are asking the people of Acadiana to open their hearts and help us to save the lives of these animals.

Please contact Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (AAVA) by calling 337-366-0212, or visiting their Facebook Page.

These animals will become UNAVAILABLE this Friday at 3PM.
