There's just some things you can't make up...

Allie Carter, 25, went hunting for waterfowl in Indiana with her dog, Trigger, a chocolate Labrador retriever.

According to conservation officers who investigated the shooting, Carter did not complete a hunter education course. In Indiana, it is required that all persons born after December 31, 1986 take a certified hunter education course before purchasing a valid hunters license.

One can receive a valid apprentice license, which is good for up to three years, but requires that the apprentice be accompanied by a hunter who has completed the safety course.

Carter placed her 12-gauge-shotgun at her feet. When she repositioned herself, Trigger stepped on...the trigger, and shot her in the foot. She may have been getting up from off of the ground when the accident occurred.

She will not face any criminal charges, or have her apprentice license revoked. It is thought that she didn't have the safety on the gun when she placed it on the ground.
