‘Deadpool 2’ Just Lost Composer Junkie XL
And another one bites the dust. Following the surprising departure of director Tim Miller last week, the Deadpool sequel has lost another creative component, as composer Junkie XL has exited the project. In a personal statement on his Facebook page, the composer says he decided to leave the sequel as a show of solidarity for Miller, who clashed with star Ryan Reynolds over the creative direction of Deadpool 2.
‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer: Diana Fights the War to End All Wars
As promised yesterday, a new Wonder Woman trailer has arrived and it is PACKED with new footage — from Diana’s home world of Themyscira (aka Paradise Island, which sounds like Jimmy Buffet’s jam) to the deadly realm of man (aka Earth), there’s a whole lot to unpack in the latest sneak peek at Gal Gadot’s first solo movie. And since it doesn’t arrive until next summer, we have plenty of time to take it all in.
‘Rambo’ Reboot in the Works Without Sylvester Stallone, Which Doesn’t Sound Like ‘Rambo’ At All
It’s been quite A Day, and we’ll forgive you for being distracted by the latest political news (aka What Did Anthony Weiner Do This Time?!) — as such, we also regret to inform you that the director of the recent action thriller Criminal is helming a new reboot of Rambo that will not feature Sylvester Stallone, which, if our science is correct, does not sound like a Rambo movie at all.
Thor Gets a Costume Upgrade in New ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Set Photo
Late yesterday, Taika Waititi treated Marvel fans to a surprisingly lengthy video from the set of Thor: Ragnarok, which offered our first look at Tessa Thomspon’s Valkyrie makeup (or some of it) and showed off a few of the characters and props we’ll see in the new sequel (among other things). You might have missed a followup to that video over on Instagram, where Chris Hemsworth shared a photo to support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe — and revealed his sleek new Thor costume.
Jesus Returns in First Image From ‘Big Lebowski’ Spinoff ‘Going Places’
Not long after rumors began circulating about John Turturro’s new film project, reports confirmed that the actor was indeed working on his long-developing Big Lebowski spinoff. Today brings our first official look at that project, titled Going Places, in which Turturro reprises the role of Jesus Quintana, the enigmatic and perverted bowler from the Coen Brothers’ cult classic.
Wolverine Takes a Good, Hard Look in the Mirror in New ‘Logan’ Photo
It’s been a few days or so since we’ve gotten a fresh sneak peek at Logan, so we’re about due for a new photo, don’t you think? Right on cue, director James Mangold has shared another image from the upcoming Wolverine sequel, this time featuring Hugh Jackman’s titular hero, his crazy ripped abs and a very unpleasant exchange with a mirror. It seems like “Old Man” is definitely the best way to describe this iteration of Logan.
‘Doctor Strange’ Director Scott Derrickson Wants to Make a ‘Visceral’ Sequel Like ‘The Dark Knight’
It’s almost impossible for filmmakers and executives to discuss sequel ideas without name-dropping Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (the same goes for discussing reboots / origin stories without citing Batman Begins). Such is the case with director Scott Derrickson, who was recently asked about his ideas for a potential sequel to Doctor Strange. Unsurprisingly, he referenced The Dark Knight — though not entirely without merit.
George Lucas Isn’t Involved With the ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Story
We’re still not sure exactly when the new Indiana Jones sequel will happen, but not long ago, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed that Steven Spielberg is returning to direct Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5. David Koepp, who worked on the screenplay for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (insert sad trombone) is also reuniting with Spielberg for the upcoming sequel, and according to him, there’s one notable person who won’t be involved — at least on the story level.
Donald Glover Is Young Lando Calrissian in Young Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff
Things are real tough for everyone right now. Our current election is bonkers, Twitter and Netflix were down for most of the day, and Jennifer Lawrence is probably dating Darren Aronofsky. Life is hard, you know? But sometimes the world is OK and dreams can come true, and if you need proof of that, look no further than this amazing casting news: Donald Glover is playing young Lando Calrissian in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo movie. PRAISE HANDS EMOJI, AMEN.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Teaser Gets Hooked On a Feeling (Again)
Well that was quick! Not long after debuting the first official teaser poster, James Gunn has revealed the first honest-to-goodness teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — and if you were digging that poster, you’re going to love this teaser, which features the delightfully familiar sound of “ooga chaka, ooga chaka, ooga ooga chaka.” Everyone sing along!
Lucasfilm Files Lawsuit Against Unauthorized Lightsaber Academy
The force is very strong with Disney and Lucasfilm’s legal department — or at least one would assume, which is why it’s probably not a good idea to infringe on their trademarked properties, especially Star Wars. But that’s exactly what one enterprising business owner did when he started the Lightsaber Academy, which is now the target of a lawsuit filed by Lucasfilm late last week.
‘Logan’ Photos Reveal First Look at Stephen Merchant as Caliban
…And the Logan photos just keep coming. Though recently rumored, these new images from the upcoming Wolverine sequel offer the first official confirmation of Stephen Merchant’s role in the film. Typically known for his comedic work and collaborations with Ricky Gervais, Merchant appears to be taking on a very different — and visually striking — sort of role in Logan as the X-Men character Caliban.
Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Voice a Real-Life Jarvis for Mark Zuckerberg
With the advent of technological helpmates like Siri and Alexa, it’s probably not long before we’re all living in a version of reality that feels a lot like Spike Jonze’s Her — or Iron Man, if you’re Mark Zuckerberg. The Facebook founder has been working to build his own A.I. system similar to Tony Stark’s Jarvis, and now that he’s ready to give it a voice, one Marvel star is eager to provide his services.
‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ Trailer: We Lost a Lot of Good Vampires and Lycans in Those Wars
Not to confuse you or anything, but this is the first full official trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars — even though you may have understandably thought that the first trailer was, you know, the first one. But that was a “Legacy” trailer, which offered a little recap of the previous films along with a preview of the upcoming sequel. This is a “full official trailer,” which means it’s for Underworld veterans only. No newbies allowed.
‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Teases Another ‘Epic Battle’ in First Official Synopsis
It’s been a minute (or several) since we’ve heard anything new from War For the Planet of the Apes, but Matt Reeves’ follow-up to 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes finally has an official synopsis — and just in time for its appearance at New York Comic Con next week. Oh, and by the way, War for the Planet of the Apes is heading to NYCC next week, which means we should be hearing a whole lot more about the exciting new sequel very soon.
Keanu Reeves Is Dressed For Success in ‘John Wick: Chapter Two’ First Look
If you haven’t been paying attention to Twitter for the last hour (or if you’re an enlightened soul who manages to function without an account), then you may have missed the first official photo from John Wick: Chapter Two. Yeah, Keanu Reeves is thinking he’s back, and this time…he’s bringing his tailor. In all seriousness, we could use more action movies about sharp-dressed assassins with great hair who love dogs.
‘Man of Steel’ Sequel Confirmed by Henry Cavill’s Manager
Over the summer, a report suggested that Warner Bros. had put Man of Steel 2 in “active development,” despite reports in 2015 that the sequel to Zack Snyder’s Superman film had been placed on permanent hold. Warner Bros. has yet to confirm plans for a new standalone Superman sequel, but it looks like someone else just did it for them: Henry Cavill’s manager.
Joe Dante Almost Made a Batman Movie With John Lithgow as The Joker
There have been several intriguing Batman movie concepts that never made it to the big screen over the years, including Darren Aronofsky’s Year One and a third Joel Schumacher Bat-film (dodged a bullet there, to be honest), but one of the lesser-discussed projects belonged to Joe Dante — yes, the director of classics like Gremlins and The ’Burbs almost made a Batman movie, and if he hadn’t ultimately walked away from it, we might have ended up with a memorable performance from John Lithgow as The Joker.
Zack Snyder Reveals Batman’s New Tactical Suit For ‘Justice League’
Hard to believe, but production on Justice League, which doesn’t hit theaters until next fall, is already nearing an end — at least according to Zack Snyder, who shared a new photo revealing Batman’s latest costume upgrade. What, you didn’t really think Batman would make another on-screen appearance without getting a fancy new super-suit, did you?
