Halloween made us think of all of the horror movies that were filmed here in Louisiana!

Everyone loves a good horror movie to watch for Halloween. You may have the usual suspects that you watch, or you might be looking for something new. Maybe something that was filmed in our great state will tickle your fancy!

    The Skeleton Key

    A hospice nurse (Kate Hudson) working at a spooky New Orleans plantation home finds herself entangled in a mystery involving the house's dark past.

    This movie filmed mainly in Vacherie, but also filmed in Bayou Gauche, and New Orleans.

    The Blob

    Remake of the 1958 horror sci-fi about a deadly blob from another planet which consumes everyone in its path. Teenagers try in vain to warn the townsfolk, who refuse to take them seriously.

    The Blob is pretty famous around these parts for being filmed entirely in Abbeville.

    The Reaping

    The death of a child in mysterious circumstances sparks a series of events that seem to represent biblical plagues, which start occurring in, of all places, a town called "Haven" that is located deep in the bowels of Bible belt country in the bayous of Louisiana. A former Christian missionary turned religious phenomena debunker (Hillary Swank) and her top open minded student turned personal assistant are sent to investigate.

    Parts of this movie were filmed at LSU, around Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport, and St. Francisville.

    Cat People

    A young woman's sexual awakening brings horror when she discovers her urges transform her into a monstrous black leopard.

    The Cat People originated way back in time, when humans sacrificed their women to leopards, who mated with them. Cat People look similar to humans, but must mate with other Cat People before they transform into panthers. Irene Gallier (Nastassja Kinski) was raised by adoptive parents and meets her older brother Paul (Malcolm McDowell) for the first time since childhood. We follow brother and sister - who seem to be the only ones of their kind left.

    This movie was filmed all around New Orleans, and Slidell.

    A group of teenagers run for their lives through the swamps of Louisiana, chased by Mr. Jangles, a man possessed by 13 evil souls, and now relentless in his pursuit of new victims.

    This movie was filmed in Amite, Hammond, New Orleans, and Choctaw, Louisiana.

    A young woman inherits an old hotel in Louisiana where after a series of supernatural 'accidents', she learns that the building was built over one of the entrances to Hell.

    This movie was filmed in Lake Charles, Metairie, Monroe, and New Orleans.

    Interview With The Vampire

    Probably one of, if not THE most recognizable films on this list.

    It hasn't even been a year since a plantation owner named Louis lost his wife in childbirth. Both his wife and the infant died, and now he has lost his will to live. A vampire named Lestat takes a liking to Louis and offers him the chance to become a creature of the night: a vampire. Louis accepts, and Lestat drains Louis' mortal blood and then replaces it with his own, turning Louis into a vampire. Louis must learn from Lestat the ways of the vampire.

    Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh

    The Candyman moves on to New Orleans and starts his horrific murders once more. This time, his intended victim is a school teacher. Her father was killed by the Candyman, and brother wrongly accused of the murders.

    Being set in New Orleans, the movie was filmed there.

    The Alligator People

    A newlywed couple sit in a train. The husband receives a frantic telegram. He gets off at a station to make a phone call, the train pulls away without him on it, and that's the last his wife sees of him. Years later after a long search she finally tracks him down on his family's southern estate where she discovers that a failed medical treatment has turned him into an alligator mutant (Lon Chaney).
